Clemency and confinement

IDF Sgt. Elor Azaria, convicted of manslaughter, has argued that his 18-month sentence should not go into effect until his clemency petition is acted on by the Chief of Staff. Prosecutors from the office of the Military Advocate General have opposed that request on the ground that it would create an exception not provided for in the Military Justice Law and set a bad precedent.
