Department of silly legislative proposals

"None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available in this Act may be used to provide for defense counsel for any individual described in section 8101(c)."

This was the complete text of a military-commissions-related amendment offered, apparently in all seriousness, by Rep. Jason Smith (R.-MO). The good news is that it failed. The bad news is that 133 members of the House of Representatives voted for it. See Just Security discussion by Steve Vladeck and Jennifer Daskal.
