Army takes administrative action where corroborating evidence is unavailable

The Intercept has this fascinating story about a U.S. Army officer who, in the course of a CIA interview, admitted to having killed an unarmed Afghan civilian and then disposed of the body. Because the officer's statement is uncorroborated, UCMJ action is precluded, but the Army has taken a variety of other adverse actions, including revocation of the officer's Silver Star and issuance of a non punitive memorandum of reprimand. A board of officers will convene later this month to decide whether he should be administratively separated.
