Exceeding authority sends Spanish Legion NCO to prison

A Spanish Legion sergeant's conviction for exceeding his authority has been upheld by the Military Chamber of the Spanish Supreme Court. He had been sentenced to a year, a month and 16 days in confinement for administering unauthorized punishment--"voluntary arrests" of 4-5 days' duration--to five trainees, according to this account in MalagaHoy. For example, he required one soldier to participate in physical training despite a documented medical condition. He punished another for not knowing the Legionary Creed.
